A round lotus panel in timber and iron, finished by hand, so no two come out the same.
Ignace is a round wall panel built from timber and iron, worked into a lotus pattern that opens out from the centre, and finished in a distressed white wash. Every piece is hand-finished, so the depth of the distressing and the tone of the timber vary from piece to piece. Some arrive with a paler white wash, while others have a warmer brown tone coming through the grain. That is part of how the piece is made rather than a fault, and it is worth knowing before you order so the one that turns up is the one you were expecting.
It measures 45.5cm across and stands only 4cm off the wall, so it sits close enough for a hallway where people brush past. At 1.8kg it is light enough for a single fixing chosen to suit your wall type. It works over a bed, above a hall console, at the far end of a passage, or in a run of three down a long wall. Timber and a washed white finish do not cope well with weather, so keep it indoors or on a fully covered verandah. There is more like it in our wall decor.
Why we love it
◆No two alike, the white wash and the timber tone shift from piece to piece, so the one you receive is its own.
◆Round and even, the lotus pattern opens from the centre, so it hangs true whichever way round it goes up.
◆Sits flat, 4cm of depth means it works in a narrow hall without catching shoulders.
◆Light at 1.8kg, one well chosen fixing is usually all it asks for.

How to style it
Round wall art earns its keep in the spots where square frames struggle.
Centre it above a bedhead, where a rectangle tends to argue with the shape of the pillows.
Hang it at the far end of a long passage so there is something to walk towards.
Break up a gallery wall of straight edged frames by dropping one round piece into the run.
Put it above a low console with a lamp to one side so the light crosses the pattern rather than hitting it flat.
Stylist's TipLight it from the side rather than head on. A lamp or wall light set off to one edge throws the lotus pattern into relief and brings out the worn white. Straight on light flattens the whole thing.
Care & Keeping
Dust with a dry cloth or a soft brush, working with the grain rather than across it. Keep it dry, since both the timber and the white wash will suffer if a damp cloth is left sitting on them. Skip sprays and household cleaners, they tend to leave a shine on a matt washed finish. Keep it out of long hours of direct sun, which will fade the timber tone over time, and out of bathrooms and laundries where steam collects.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will mine look exactly like the photograph?
Not exactly, and that is intended. Every piece is hand-finished, so the depth of the distressing and the tone of the timber vary from piece to piece. Some arrive with a paler white wash, while others have a warmer brown tone coming through the grain. We photograph a representative piece, but yours will have its own balance of white and timber.
How do I hang it?
It weighs about 1.8kg, so a single fixing rated well above that will do. Into a stud is ideal. Into plasterboard, use a proper anchor rather than a nail on its own.
How far does it stand off the wall?
About 4cm, so it sits close and suits a narrow hallway or a stairwell where a deeper piece would be in the way.
Can it hang outdoors or in a bathroom?
No. It is timber with a washed finish, so damp, steam and weather will all work against it. Indoors, or a fully covered verandah that stays properly dry.
Can I hang several together?
Yes, and a group of three along a long wall looks good. Each is 45.5cm across, so allow roughly 10cm to 15cm between them. Because the finish varies piece to piece, a group will read as a collection rather than a matched set.
Because Ignace is hand-finished, slight variations in the depth of the distressing, the tone of the timber and the coverage of the white wash are natural and add to the character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.

I have never been a clock-watcher, but all that changed with Maude. I can't stop looking at her. Out of the box, slip in an AA battery and on to the wall, just like that! She is simply gorgeous.
This is a present for my horse loving daughter in law. I'm sure it will take pride of place on her mantle piece. Again I love this Web site which I will be visiting often.
Found this beautiful elegant Swan for my garden online via a search at Chateau Living. A great price, quality and excellent ordering and delivery. Would definitely purchase from this business again. They have such a beautiful variety of products.
It was my testing the waters first purchase to check out this new store & what’s on offer. I loved the idea of supplying cast iron cute animal figurines as they’re practical, good looking, solid durable material, great rust finish (no need to buy expensive rust effect paint). Just ready to weather and brings a smile on your dial. I placed my frog with his hands up as if in religious praying gesture next to the concrete funny sign scored at Vinnies reading: grant me patience Lord but hurry - I believe the praying frog and the sign go comically together. I’m thinking of getting the other frog too in its hilarious pose possibly in green patina for contrast. I can confirm it’s heavy cast iron with attractive rust patina. These casts fill the gap in the market dominated by laser cut cortina steel offerings. Just something old school different and complimentary to your garden /house decor. Pleased it’s introduced to Australian market and once for change not made in China… but in France known for its cast iron tradition. We own 18th century French anvil won at an antique auction which is our proud possession so happy to score more in heavy casts.
This may not show on the store website that well but they’re actually old gold colour. It’s lightweight thin metal so perhaps inside or sheltered outdoor space would suit them the best as it may rust out & some fragile parts of the tail break exposed to the weather. They’re as large as described, cleverly designed for packaging - legs are separate with tightening screw. They make an impact due to their size & fit almost any decor with the colour & style.
I was so happy with Chateau Living. Brilliant customer service & speedy delivery. How lucky we are to have an Australian option giving us all these beautiful items for our homes. Highly recommend
I bought this piece as I could see it in my mind's eye having an suspended impact with my high end Brazilian quartz crystal display. Such a well made piece, sturdy and if I didn't know better, from another time. I am planning a candle holder from Chateau Living to complete this display, just having trouble deciding from the elegant range they have available. Very pleased :) Who would have thought you could combine Brazil with French Provincial so perfectly.
