A rooster who has clearly been up since five and has the shovel to prove it.
Mr Featherwick is cast in solid cast iron and finished in a natural rust patina that runs deep amber across his comb and shoulders and darkens to russet in the folds of his jacket. He stands upright in a buttoned coat and trousers worked over with a raised floral pattern, a round-bladed garden shovel held upright against his chest in one wing. The casting keeps the serration of the comb, the hang of the wattle and every leaf on the trousers.
At 22cm he is a mantel and doorstep piece rather than a lawn piece, and he reads best where you pass him closely. He is built for outdoor life: the iron carries enough weight to hold its place, and the rust patina is a finish rather than a fault, so weather deepens him instead of wearing him out.

Mr Featherwick is small enough to tuck in and odd enough to be noticed, so put him where someone walks past rather than across a lawn.
Stylist's TipStand him where light comes across him from one side rather than straight on. The comb and the floral work on the trousers both throw their own shadow, and that is what makes the casting read as hand-finished.
Wipe with a soft dry cloth to lift dust from the comb and the folds of the jacket. The rust patina is a finished surface and needs no sealing. Stand him on a felt pad or a saucer if he is going on pale stone or painted timber, because the rust can mark lighter surfaces after rain, and keep harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads away from him.
Yes. He is cast iron finished in natural rust, so weather is what the finish is for. The colour will deepen and vary over the first season and then settle. Stand him on a pad if the surface under him is pale stone or painted timber.
Solid cast iron, 1.4 kg in a 22cm figure. A resin or magnesia piece of the same size would weigh a fraction of that and would blow over or chip. You feel the difference the moment you pick him up.
22cm tall with a footprint of 8 x 6.5 cm, so roughly three quarters the height of a wine bottle. Small enough for a windowsill or a shelf, not a lawn ornament.
Yes. He is sold as a single figure. Mrs Cluckington, the hen in the floral dress, is listed separately if you want the two of them together.
Close, not identical. Each piece is cast and finished by hand, so the rust falls differently across every one and the depth of colour varies. That is the nature of the finish rather than a flaw.
Because Mr Featherwick is hand-finished, slight variations in patina, texture, and grain are natural and add to the unique character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.
