A goose who has quite clearly been given a crown and intends to keep it.
Princess Evangeline is cast in solid iron and finished in a natural rust patina. She stands with both wings thrown open, neck curved back over her shoulder, a small beaded crown perched on her head. Every feather is cast individually, laid in overlapping rows down the wing to the trailing edge, and she balances on two broad webbed feet with no base beneath her.
She measures 25cm from wingtip to wingtip and stands 20cm tall, so she reads as a real bird rather than an ornament. At 1.54 kg of cast iron she settles into gravel or planting and stays put, and the rust patina means she can live outdoors all year.

How to style it
She needs clear air either side of her, or the open wings read as clutter.
- Stand her on gravel at the edge of a border with lavender rising behind
- Set her beside a bird bath or a shallow water bowl, where the pose makes sense
- Give her the corner of a terrace with nothing else at her height
- Add her to the rest of our garden sculptures for a mixed group
Stylist's TipSit her low, at ground level in gravel or planting rather than up on a ledge. A bird with its wings open wants to look like it just landed, and height ruins that instantly.
Care & Keeping
Wipe with a soft dry cloth, following the run of the feathers rather than across them. The rust patina is a finished surface and needs no sealing. Place a felt pad or a saucer underneath on pale stone or painted timber, and keep harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads away from her.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can she live outside all year?
Yes. Iron with a natural rust patina is made for open weather, and rain deepens the colour rather than harming it. On pale stone or decking, set a pad underneath so run off does not mark the surface.
What is she made of?
Solid cast iron throughout, crown and feet included, finished by hand in a natural rust patina. At 1.54 kg she has the density of the real material, which the resin garden birds do not.
How big is she?
25cm across the open wings, 20cm to the top of the crown, and 11cm front to back. Close to the size of a real goose chick.
Does she stand up on her own?
She does. The two webbed feet are broad and cast as one with the body, so she stands unaided on any reasonably level surface. In loose gravel, press her feet down until they sit flush.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Close. The patina is applied by hand, so the depth and spread of the rust varies from piece to piece, and no two come out quite the same.
