A dormouse who has found a saxophone and has absolutely no intention of giving it back.
Bertie is a dormouse cast in solid iron and finished in a natural rust patina, sitting up on his haunches and playing a saxophone. He weighs 2.1 kg, which is the difference between cast iron and the resin figures that copy this shape. The fur is worked in fine strands over the whole body, right down to the toes on his back feet.
At 18.5cm he is small enough to sit in the palm of your hand and detailed enough to earn a spot at eye level. He is one of three, and the three of them together are considerably more fun than any one alone. Built for outdoor life: the rust patina is a finish rather than a fault, so weather deepens him instead of wearing him out.
| Size | 10 x 14 x 18.5 cm |
| Weight | 2.1 kg net, 2.5 kg packed |
| Materials | Solid cast iron |
| Finish | Natural rust patina, hand-finished |
| Style | French Provincial · storybook · garden dormice |
| Suitable for | Indoor, covered outdoor, or open garden. Built to weather. |
He is small and the detail is all close range, so put him where people pass within arm's reach.
Stylist's TipThe bell of the sax sticks out further than you expect, so leave him 5cm of clear air at the front or it reads cramped. He is the widest of the three.
Wipe with a soft dry cloth to lift dust out of the fur and around the saxophone keys. The rust patina is a finished surface and needs no sealing. Place a felt pad or a saucer underneath on pale stone or painted timber, and keep harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads away from him.
Yes. Iron with a natural rust patina is made for open weather, and rain deepens the colour rather than harming it. On pale stone or decking, set a pad underneath so run off does not mark the surface.
Solid cast iron throughout, instrument included, finished by hand in a natural rust patina. At 2.1 kg he is many times the weight of the resin figures sold at this size.
10cm wide, 14cm deep and 18.5cm tall, at 2.1 kg net.
No, each is sold on his own so you can take one, two or all three. They are three separate castings at the same scale, and they read as a band when you put them together.
Close. The patina is applied by hand, so the depth and spread of the rust varies from piece to piece, and no two come out quite the same.
Because Bertie is hand-finished, slight variations in patina, texture, and grain are natural and add to the unique character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.

Odette French Provincial Swan Planter, Whitewashed Magnesia Garden Decor 43cm
Fits in beautifully with the fairy garden vibe I'm creating fir my great grandchildren.
Lady Ophelia French Provincial Fairy Statue, Natural Rust Cast Iron 30cm
It was my testing the waters first purchase to check out this new store & what’s on offer. I loved the idea of supplying cast iron cute animal figurines as they’re practical, good looking, solid durable material, great rust finish (no need to buy expensive rust effect paint). Just ready to weather and brings a smile on your dial. I placed my frog with his hands up as if in religious praying gesture next to the concrete funny sign scored at Vinnies reading: grant me patience Lord but hurry - I believe the praying frog and the sign go comically together. I’m thinking of getting the other frog too in its hilarious pose possibly in green patina for contrast. I can confirm it’s heavy cast iron with attractive rust patina. These casts fill the gap in the market dominated by laser cut cortina steel offerings. Just something old school different and complimentary to your garden /house decor. Pleased it’s introduced to Australian market and once for change not made in China… but in France known for its cast iron tradition. We own 18th century French anvil won at an antique auction which is our proud possession so happy to score more in heavy casts.
The Frog Prince French Provincial Frog Statue, Natural Rust Cast Iron 30cm
I got this little figurine as a freebie & it’s pretty cute. Heavy cast metal nice detail to it. He would look great in larger sizes too I think.
Mr Capone French Provincial Terrier Statue in a Bowler Hat, Natural Rust Cast Iron 14.5cm
This may not show on the store website that well but they’re actually old gold colour. It’s lightweight thin metal so perhaps inside or sheltered outdoor space would suit them the best as it may rust out & some fragile parts of the tail break exposed to the weather. They’re as large as described, cleverly designed for packaging - legs are separate with tightening screw. They make an impact due to their size & fit almost any decor with the colour & style.

Guido French Provincial Fleur de Lis Urn Vase, Aged Bronze Finish 43.5cm
I bought this piece as I could see it in my mind's eye having an suspended impact with my high end Brazilian quartz crystal display. Such a well made piece, sturdy and if I didn't know better, from another time. I am planning a candle holder from Chateau Living to complete this display, just having trouble deciding from the elegant range they have available. Very pleased :) Who would have thought you could combine Brazil with French Provincial so perfectly.

It’s beautiful the only things I thought disappointing Were .. it’s a bit smaller than indicated by 3 cms across the bowl And it’s pretty much all grey not a rustic patchy colour It’s still beautiful
The Willowmere Grey French Provincial Pedestal Bird Feeder, Weathered Grey Cast Iron 58cm
Store owner replied: Thank you so much for the honest review and the photo, Lynne, and I'm so glad you still find her beautiful. The 30cm is measured across the dish including the little bird perched on the rim, so the bowl itself is a few centimetres smaller. We'll make that clearer on the listing. The grey version has a weathered stone finish, chalky on the raised edges and darker in the recesses, so it reads as mostly grey. If you ever fall for the patchier rustic look, the Willowmere also comes in a natural rust finish. Lucie
