DETAILS & SIZE
White on the carving, natural timber showing through underneath.
Henry is a round mandala panel cut from timber and finished by hand in two tones. The raised carving carries a distressed white, and the timber beneath is left in its own colour, so the pattern reads clearly from across the room instead of flattening out. Because the white is worked back by hand it sits thinner on the high points and gathers in the grooves, which is what gives the surface its depth.
At 58cm across and only 3cm deep it stays close to the wall, so it suits a hallway or the space above a bed without crowding anything. It weighs about 4kg, so hang it from a single fixing rated for that weight and chosen to suit your wall. Plaster, brick and timber stud each want something different.
Why we love it
◆Two tone finish, distressed white over natural timber, so the pattern holds its shape even in low light
◆58cm across, wide enough to fill a wall on its own without a frame or a second piece
◆Only 3cm deep, so it sits flat in a narrow hall or beside a door where a framed print would stick out
◆Hand-finished, no two panels distress the same way, so yours will carry its own tone through the white

How to style it
Henry does the most work on a wall that is otherwise empty. A few places it sits well:
Centred above a bedhead, with nothing else on that wall so the carving has room to read.
In an entry hall above a console, with a lamp set to one side so the light rakes across the pattern.
Beside a smaller round piece from our wall decor range, hung a little lower and off to one side.
Against a deeper wall colour, sage, charcoal or a warm clay, where the white carving lifts away from the background.
Stylist's TipHang it so the centre of the mandala sits at standing eye level, roughly 155cm from the floor. Over a bedhead, drop it lower, about 20cm above the timber, so it reads as part of the bed rather than floating above it.
Care & Keeping
Dust with a dry, soft brush. A clean paintbrush is ideal for getting down into the carving. Wipe the flat outer edge with a barely damp cloth if it needs it, then dry it straight away. Keep it out of direct sun and away from damp rooms, since timber moves with humidity and a white finish will fade if it sits in strong afternoon light.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it heavy to hang?
It weighs around 4kg, so one fixing rated above that is enough. On plasterboard use a proper anchor rather than a bare screw, and check the rating printed on the packet before you drill.
Is the natural timber section painted?
No. The white sits on the raised carving and is then worked back, and the timber below is left in its own colour. That contrast is what gives the panel its depth on the wall.
Can I hang it on a covered verandah?
We would keep it indoors. Timber and a painted finish do not hold up to weather, and even a covered verandah carries enough moisture to lift the white over a season or two.
Will it match the other mandala panels?
It sits in the same family, though each panel is finished separately so tones vary a little. If you are hanging two together that variation usually reads as intentional rather than mismatched.
How far does it stand off the wall?
Three centimetres. It clears most door architraves and will not catch a shoulder in a narrow hallway, which is why it works in spots where a boxed frame does not.
Because Henry is hand-finished, slight variations in the distressing, tone and grain are natural and add to the character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.

I have never been a clock-watcher, but all that changed with Maude. I can't stop looking at her. Out of the box, slip in an AA battery and on to the wall, just like that! She is simply gorgeous.
This is a present for my horse loving daughter in law. I'm sure it will take pride of place on her mantle piece. Again I love this Web site which I will be visiting often.
Found this beautiful elegant Swan for my garden online via a search at Chateau Living. A great price, quality and excellent ordering and delivery. Would definitely purchase from this business again. They have such a beautiful variety of products.
It was my testing the waters first purchase to check out this new store & what’s on offer. I loved the idea of supplying cast iron cute animal figurines as they’re practical, good looking, solid durable material, great rust finish (no need to buy expensive rust effect paint). Just ready to weather and brings a smile on your dial. I placed my frog with his hands up as if in religious praying gesture next to the concrete funny sign scored at Vinnies reading: grant me patience Lord but hurry - I believe the praying frog and the sign go comically together. I’m thinking of getting the other frog too in its hilarious pose possibly in green patina for contrast. I can confirm it’s heavy cast iron with attractive rust patina. These casts fill the gap in the market dominated by laser cut cortina steel offerings. Just something old school different and complimentary to your garden /house decor. Pleased it’s introduced to Australian market and once for change not made in China… but in France known for its cast iron tradition. We own 18th century French anvil won at an antique auction which is our proud possession so happy to score more in heavy casts.
This may not show on the store website that well but they’re actually old gold colour. It’s lightweight thin metal so perhaps inside or sheltered outdoor space would suit them the best as it may rust out & some fragile parts of the tail break exposed to the weather. They’re as large as described, cleverly designed for packaging - legs are separate with tightening screw. They make an impact due to their size & fit almost any decor with the colour & style.
I was so happy with Chateau Living. Brilliant customer service & speedy delivery. How lucky we are to have an Australian option giving us all these beautiful items for our homes. Highly recommend
I bought this piece as I could see it in my mind's eye having an suspended impact with my high end Brazilian quartz crystal display. Such a well made piece, sturdy and if I didn't know better, from another time. I am planning a candle holder from Chateau Living to complete this display, just having trouble deciding from the elegant range they have available. Very pleased :) Who would have thought you could combine Brazil with French Provincial so perfectly.
