Parapluie is a set of two iron wall planters shaped like open umbrellas turned upside down, ready to hold a fern, a trailing vine, dried branches or a bouquet of foraged stems. Each planter hangs from a long curved black iron handle styled like an umbrella crook, so the whole piece reads instantly as the object it references. The chippy distressed cream paintwork over dark iron lets the worn metal show through in spots, giving every surface the look of something pulled from a forgotten Provençal garden shed.
The set includes one larger umbrella at 35 cm wide and 54 cm tall (including the hook handle) and one smaller umbrella at 29 cm wide and 40.5 cm tall. How to style them
The Parapluie set is built to be hung as a pair. A few ways to bring them into the home.
- Hang side by side at staggered heights in an entryway or hallway, one filled with trailing pothos or string of pearls and the other left empty as a quiet wall sculpture.
- Place on a covered verandah or under a pergola to hold pelargoniums, herbs or dried lavender bunches for a Provençal garden vignette.
- Use in a powder room or laundry as a soft soap dish or hand-towel pocket above a basin.

Stylist's Tip Hang the larger umbrella roughly 15 to 20 cm lower than the smaller one, slightly offset, so the two hooks sit at different heights. The asymmetry reads as collected rather than matched, which is the whole point of a set like this.
Care & Keeping
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners. If using as a planter with live plants, place a plastic pot insert inside the iron rather than potting directly, both to protect the chippy finish and to make watering manageable. Suitable for indoor and sheltered outdoor use, but bring under cover during extended wet weather to preserve the paintwork.

How does it hang on the wall?
The long curved iron handle at the top works like an umbrella crook, hooking over a standard picture hook, a screw or a nail in the wall. No special mounting hardware is required, and no holes need to be made in the planter itself.
Can I plant directly into the umbrellas?
We recommend using a plastic pot insert that fits inside the umbrella rather than potting soil directly into the iron. This protects the chippy paintwork from moisture and makes it easy to lift the plant out for watering. Faux plants and dried branches can sit directly inside without an insert.
Are they suitable for outdoor use?

No. The chipped and worn areas across both umbrellas are part of the design, deliberately hand-finished to read like salvaged metal. Each set is finished individually so the pattern of distressing varies slightly between pieces.

It was my testing the waters first purchase to check out this new store & what’s on offer. I loved the idea of supplying cast iron cute animal figurines as they’re practical, good looking, solid durable material, great rust finish (no need to buy expensive rust effect paint). Just ready to weather and brings a smile on your dial. I placed my frog with his hands up as if in religious praying gesture next to the concrete funny sign scored at Vinnies reading: grant me patience Lord but hurry - I believe the praying frog and the sign go comically together. I’m thinking of getting the other frog too in its hilarious pose possibly in green patina for contrast. I can confirm it’s heavy cast iron with attractive rust patina. These casts fill the gap in the market dominated by laser cut cortina steel offerings. Just something old school different and complimentary to your garden /house decor. Pleased it’s introduced to Australian market and once for change not made in China… but in France known for its cast iron tradition. We own 18th century French anvil won at an antique auction which is our proud possession so happy to score more in heavy casts.

This may not show on the store website that well but they’re actually old gold colour. It’s lightweight thin metal so perhaps inside or sheltered outdoor space would suit them the best as it may rust out & some fragile parts of the tail break exposed to the weather. They’re as large as described, cleverly designed for packaging - legs are separate with tightening screw. They make an impact due to their size & fit almost any decor with the colour & style.
