A fairy caught mid flight on the face of the moon, pressed into chalk white stone.
Mélusine is a round moon flask vase in antique white magnesia, with a fairy and a trailing flowering vine worked across one whole face in raised relief. Small loop handles sit at the shoulder, the neck flares into a soft rolled lip, and the surface is matt and faintly gritty, rubbed back so the darker tone settles into every recess and catches the light along each curl and wing tip.
She stands 37cm tall on a flat oval foot and only 16cm deep, so she fits a narrow console or a mantel where a rounder vase would push too far forward. The reverse is left almost plain, a second quieter face you can turn outwards when the room needs calm rather than a story.

How to style it
Mélusine wants height above her and very little clutter beside her.
- Fill her with bare twigs or dried branches so the line carries up and away, never a dense bunch that hides the relief
- Stand her alone on a narrow console, with the rest of our vases collection kept to the other end
- Build an evening mantel around her with pieces from our candle holders collection
- Leave her empty on a shelf and turn the plain face out when you want the room to go quiet
Stylist's Tip Light her from the side rather than straight on. A lamp set off at an angle drops shadow into every curl and wing, and the fairy lifts away from the surface. Front light flattens her.
Care & Keeping
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth, and use a dry brush to lift dust out of the deeper parts of the relief. Magnesia is porous, so wipe up spills quickly and sit a glass or plastic liner inside her if you want fresh flowers and water. Keep her on a level surface away from edges and skip the harsh cleaners, as the finish marks.

Can she hold water and fresh flowers?
Not directly. Magnesia is porous and standing water will work its way into the body over time. Sit a glass jar or a plastic liner inside the neck and she takes fresh stems happily. Dried flowers and branches need no liner at all.
Can she go outside?
She is finished for indoor use. Constant damp will lift the surface, so a sheltered spot well out of the rain is as far outdoors as we would take her.
How big is she?
37cm tall and 34cm across, so roughly the span of a dinner plate standing on edge, and only 16cm deep. She reads as a substantial piece without taking much surface.
What style of room does she suit?
French country, cottage and anything leaning romantic or garden inspired. The chalky white sits well against timber, linen and aged metal, and the relief gives a plain wall something to answer.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Very close. The antique white is rubbed back by hand, so the depth of shading in the relief shifts a little from piece to piece. That variation is intended and is what keeps her from looking machine made.
Because Mélusine is hand-finished, slight variations in patina, texture, and grain are natural and add to the unique character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.

It was my testing the waters first purchase to check out this new store & what’s on offer. I loved the idea of supplying cast iron cute animal figurines as they’re practical, good looking, solid durable material, great rust finish (no need to buy expensive rust effect paint). Just ready to weather and brings a smile on your dial. I placed my frog with his hands up as if in religious praying gesture next to the concrete funny sign scored at Vinnies reading: grant me patience Lord but hurry - I believe the praying frog and the sign go comically together. I’m thinking of getting the other frog too in its hilarious pose possibly in green patina for contrast. I can confirm it’s heavy cast iron with attractive rust patina. These casts fill the gap in the market dominated by laser cut cortina steel offerings. Just something old school different and complimentary to your garden /house decor. Pleased it’s introduced to Australian market and once for change not made in China… but in France known for its cast iron tradition. We own 18th century French anvil won at an antique auction which is our proud possession so happy to score more in heavy casts.

This may not show on the store website that well but they’re actually old gold colour. It’s lightweight thin metal so perhaps inside or sheltered outdoor space would suit them the best as it may rust out & some fragile parts of the tail break exposed to the weather. They’re as large as described, cleverly designed for packaging - legs are separate with tightening screw. They make an impact due to their size & fit almost any decor with the colour & style.
