A farmhouse kitchen chair, drawn in white metal instead of timber.
Perrine takes the shape of an old spindle back chair, the kind that came with a scrubbed kitchen table, and makes it in metal. Seven slim spindles rise to a shaped crest rail with a gentle double curve across the top, and the seat is a plain round dish on four splayed legs braced with stretchers.
It is finished in a distressed white that has been worn through on the crest rail, the front edge of the seat and the feet, which are the places a chair in daily use actually rubs. A turned collar partway down each front leg breaks up the line.
Being metal rather than timber, it handles a covered verandah or a garden table in a way a wooden chair will not, and it is light enough to carry out and bring back in one hand. At 87 cm tall with a 44 cm seat it sits at standard dining height. Pairs naturally with the pieces in our furniture collection.

How to style it
A few ways to use it:
- One at the head of a timber dining table, as the odd chair out
- As a bedroom chair, for clothes more often than for sitting
- In a hallway or an entry, with a basket underneath
- On a covered verandah beside a small round table
- As a plant stand, with a pot sitting on the seat
Stylist's Tip Do not try to buy a matching set. A white metal chair like this earns its keep as the one that does not match, pulled up to a table of mismatched timber ones.
Care & Keeping
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry it off. The distressed finish is meant to keep wearing, so marks from ordinary use blend in rather than stand out. If you keep it outdoors, choose a covered spot and bring it in through long wet weather, since standing moisture on a painted iron frame is what starts rust at the feet. Check the stretchers and joints occasionally on a chair that gets moved around a lot.

Is it comfortable to sit on?
It is a hard seat, like any metal or timber kitchen chair. Fine for a meal, and much better with a cushion tied on if it is going to be sat in all evening.
What height is the seat?
The chair is 87 cm to the top of the back. The seat sits at standard dining height, so it pulls up to a normal table without trouble.
Is it timber or metal?
Iron, finished to look like painted timber. That is deliberate, and it is why it copes with a verandah better than the wooden original would.
Can I leave it in the garden?
Under cover, yes. Out in open weather the paint will give up eventually and the feet are where rust starts, so a verandah or a porch is a better home than open lawn.
Does it come assembled?
It ships as a single piece in its own carton. Check it over on arrival and let us know straight away if anything has moved in transit.
Because Perrine is finished by hand, the distressing varies a little from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.

It was my testing the waters first purchase to check out this new store & what’s on offer. I loved the idea of supplying cast iron cute animal figurines as they’re practical, good looking, solid durable material, great rust finish (no need to buy expensive rust effect paint). Just ready to weather and brings a smile on your dial. I placed my frog with his hands up as if in religious praying gesture next to the concrete funny sign scored at Vinnies reading: grant me patience Lord but hurry - I believe the praying frog and the sign go comically together. I’m thinking of getting the other frog too in its hilarious pose possibly in green patina for contrast. I can confirm it’s heavy cast iron with attractive rust patina. These casts fill the gap in the market dominated by laser cut cortina steel offerings. Just something old school different and complimentary to your garden /house decor. Pleased it’s introduced to Australian market and once for change not made in China… but in France known for its cast iron tradition. We own 18th century French anvil won at an antique auction which is our proud possession so happy to score more in heavy casts.

This may not show on the store website that well but they’re actually old gold colour. It’s lightweight thin metal so perhaps inside or sheltered outdoor space would suit them the best as it may rust out & some fragile parts of the tail break exposed to the weather. They’re as large as described, cleverly designed for packaging - legs are separate with tightening screw. They make an impact due to their size & fit almost any decor with the colour & style.
