You can't buy Pip Wren
Pip Wren isn't sold anywhere. The only way to bring this little wren home is free, with any order over $150. He's added to your cart automatically, along with the Styling Guide.
A wren with his tail up, mid argument with something in the hedge.
Pip is cast in solid cast iron and finished in a natural rust patina that runs warm amber across his back and deepens to russet under the wing. He is a plump little wren with his tail cocked sharply upright, perched on a rounded cast base of stacked stones. The casting holds every cut feather across the wing and back, the round of the eye and the fine point of the beak.
At 15cm tall and 13cm from beak to tail he is a shelf and windowsill piece, small enough to sit anywhere and heavy enough to stay put. He is built for outdoor life: the rust patina is a finish rather than a fault, so weather deepens him instead of wearing him out.
Why we love it
- ◆The tail, cocked bolt upright, which is what makes him read as a wren rather than a generic garden bird
- ◆The weight, 1.7 kg of cast iron in a 15cm bird, which is what separates him from the resin pieces that copy this shape
- ◆The rust patina, warm amber across the back, russet down in the feather cuts, and it only improves outdoors
- ◆The base, a cast mound of stacked stones, modelled as part of the piece rather than a flat disc

How to style it
Pip is small enough to tuck in almost anywhere, so put him where someone will come across him rather than out on a lawn.
- Stand him on a kitchen windowsill where the light crosses his back
- Set him on a shelf among books so the tail breaks the line
- Put him among the rest of our garden sculptures
- Stand him on the edge of a planters group on a back step
Stylist's TipTurn him so the light comes across his back rather than straight on. The feather cuts are deep enough to throw their own shadow, and that is what makes the casting read as hand-finished.
Care & Keeping
Wipe with a soft dry cloth to lift dust from the feather cuts and around the base. The rust patina is a finished surface and needs no sealing. Stand him on a felt pad or a saucer if he is going on pale stone or painted timber, because the rust can mark lighter surfaces after rain, and keep harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads away from him.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can he live outside all year?
Yes. He is cast iron finished in natural rust, so weather is what the finish is for. The colour will deepen and vary over the first season and then settle. Stand him on a pad if the surface under him is pale stone or painted timber.
What is he made of?
Solid cast iron, 1.7 kg in a 15cm bird. A resin piece of the same size would weigh a fraction of that and would blow off a ledge in the first decent wind. You feel the difference the moment you pick him up.
How big is he?
15cm tall and 13cm from beak to tail, so roughly one and a half times the height of a coffee mug. Small enough for a windowsill or a shelf.
Is he sold on his own?
Yes. He is sold as a single bird. Squeak, the smaller bird on the acorn stump, is listed separately if you want the pair.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Close, not identical. Each piece is cast and finished by hand, so the rust falls differently across every one and the depth of colour varies. That is the nature of the finish rather than a flaw.
Because Pip is hand-finished, slight variations in patina, texture, and grain are natural and add to the unique character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.
