Pip Wren + Styling Guide
Chalky white, softly fluted, with the worn look of something kept a long time.
Margot is a twin-handled vase with a full rounded shoulder, a narrow neck and a fluted lower body that runs in soft vertical ribs down to the foot. Two small loop handles sit high on the shoulder, more for the shape than for carrying.
She is finished in a chalky distressed white that has been knocked back around the rim, the handles and the ridges of the fluting, letting a darker tone show through where a real piece would have worn. Up close the surface is matte and slightly uneven rather than smooth and painted.
At 28 cm tall and 18 cm across she holds a decent armful. Olive branches, eucalyptus, dried grasses or a loose garden bunch all sit well in the narrow neck, which does the arranging for you by holding the stems upright. Have a look at the rest of our vases if you want to build a group.
Shown here styled with olive branches, a linen runner, a small timber bowl and a stack of old books. Those pieces are for styling only and are not included.
Why we love it
- ◆ A narrow neck that holds stems upright, so a loose bunch still looks arranged.
- ◆ Soft vertical fluting on the lower body, which picks up light along each rib.
- ◆ A chalky worn finish, rubbed back at the rim and handles rather than evenly painted.
- ◆ Metal, not ceramic, so it takes a knock far better than it looks like it would.

How to style it
A few ways to use it:
- Three or four olive or eucalyptus branches, nothing else, letting them lean
- Dried grasses through winter, swapped for garden flowers in spring
- Empty on a kitchen bench, where the fluting reads as a piece of pottery
- Paired with a taller vase and a short bowl for a group of three heights
- On a linen runner down the middle of a long table
Stylist's Tip Cut the stems so the tallest sits about one and a half times the height of the vase. Shorter than that and it looks stunted, much taller and the narrow neck stops holding them where you put them.
Care & Keeping
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For fresh flowers, sit a glass or plastic liner inside rather than filling the body directly, which keeps water off the inside of the metal and makes changing it easier. Dry the outside if any water runs down it. The worn finish is intended and will keep wearing gently with handling, which is part of the look. Keep it indoors and out of damp.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put water and fresh flowers in it?
Use a liner. We do not guarantee it watertight, and sitting water inside a metal vase is what causes trouble over time. A jar or a plastic sleeve inside works perfectly and nobody sees it.
Is it ceramic?
No, it is iron with a chalky white finish. It reads as old pottery from across a room, which is the point, but it will survive a knock that would finish off the real thing.
How tall is it?
28 cm tall and 18 cm at the widest point, which is a little under the height of a standard wine bottle but considerably fuller through the body.
Are the handles strong enough to carry it by?
They are decorative rather than structural. Lift it by the body, particularly when there is water or a liner inside.
Will the white finish chip?
It is meant to look chipped already. Any further wear from handling blends straight into the distressing rather than standing out as damage.
Because Margot is finished by hand, the distressing and tone vary a little from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.
