Pip Wren + Styling Guide
Mossy green metal, a single fleur de lis, and two handles that curl like ironwork.
Justine is a footed goblet urn with a straight-sided bowl that drops into a turned stem and a wide flared foot. A scrolled handle curls out from each side, and a single fleur de lis sits raised on the front of the bowl.
The finish is the reason to own it. A mossy verdigris laid over metal, mottled olive and ochre and worn through to a darker ground, with the texture of something that has stood under a tree for years. It is uneven on purpose, so no two come out quite the same.
At 29 cm tall and 26 cm across the handles, this is the smaller of our pair. It holds a loose bunch of dried stems well, and it is light enough to move around as the seasons change. The 35 cm version is the same design scaled up, and the two together look considered rather than matched. The rest are in our vase collection.
Shown here styled with dried grasses and seed heads, a linen cloth, a candle and old books. Those pieces are for styling only and are not included.
Why we love it
- ◆ A mossy verdigris finish, mottled olive and ochre rather than one flat colour.
- ◆ Two scrolled handles that give it width without adding height.
- ◆ A raised fleur de lis on the front, the one piece of ornament on a plain bowl.
- ◆ Pairs with the 35 cm version, same design at two heights.

How to style it
A few ways to use it:
- Dried grasses and seed heads, left loose and airy
- Eucalyptus or olive, where the green picks up the verdigris
- Paired with the 35 cm version, turned so both fleurs de lis face out
- Empty on a shelf, where the handles break the line of the edge
- On a covered verandah with a small plant in a liner
Stylist's Tip Green against green is the trick with a verdigris finish. Dried oatmeal tones look fine, but a few stems of eucalyptus or olive make the whole surface read as metal that has aged rather than paint that was applied.
Care & Keeping
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For fresh flowers, sit a glass or plastic liner inside rather than filling the body directly, which keeps water off the inside of the metal. Dry the outside if any runs down it. The verdigris is a finish rather than true patina, so avoid scrubbing it, and it will soften gently with handling. Keep it out of standing water if you use it outdoors.
Frequently Asked Questions
How big is it?
29 cm tall and 26 cm across including both handles. That is the smaller of the two sizes we carry in this design.
Can I put water in it?
Use a liner. We do not guarantee it watertight, and standing water inside a metal urn causes trouble over time. A jar or a florist's sleeve sits inside out of sight.
Is the green real patina?
It is a verdigris finish applied to look like decades of weathering. The mottling and the worn patches are deliberate, which is why each one comes out slightly different.
Are the handles strong enough to lift it by?
They are decorative rather than structural. Lift it by the bowl, particularly if there is water or a liner inside.
Can it go outside?
In a covered spot, yes. Keep it off wet ground and out of standing water, since that is what shortens the life of a painted finish on iron.
Because Justine is finished by hand, the verdigris and mottling vary a little from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.
