Pip Wren + Styling Guide
Two cherubs leaning together at the foot of an oval glass.
Albertine is a small oval wall mirror in a scrolled frame, with a pair of cherubs moulded at the base, seated shoulder to shoulder and looking out. A single rose sits at the crown, and the frame breaks into loose scrollwork at the sides rather than running as a plain oval.
The finish is a distressed white with soft gold catching the raised edges of the scrolls and the rose. It is rubbed back unevenly so the white sits thin on the high points, which keeps the detail readable instead of filling it in.
At 39 cm tall and 27 cm wide it is deliberately small, the kind of mirror that goes where a large one would be wrong. A powder room, the end of a hallway, above a narrow console, in a nook beside a bedhead. It hangs happily on its own or as part of a group with frames and pictures. More in our mirror collection.
Shown here styled with a candlestick, antique books, a small framed picture and a vase of dried stems. Those pieces are for styling only and are not included.
Why we love it
- ◆ Two moulded cherubs at the base, which is what lifts it above a plain oval.
- ◆ Gold on the raised edges only, so it reads as aged rather than gilded.
- ◆ Genuinely small at 39 cm, for the walls a statement mirror would overwhelm.
- ◆ Light at 1.5 kg, so it does not need a heavy fixing or a stud.

How to style it
A few ways to use it:
- In a powder room, where a large mirror would close the space in
- Above a narrow console, with a candlestick to one side
- In a gallery wall among framed pictures, as the one reflective thing
- At the dead end of a hallway, to bounce light back down it
- Leaning on a mantel or a deep shelf rather than hung
Stylist's Tip Hang it a little lower than you think. The cherubs are at the bottom, so if you centre the glass at eye level the best part of the piece ends up below the line people look at.
Care & Keeping
Clean the glass with a cloth lightly dampened with glass cleaner, sprayed onto the cloth rather than onto the mirror, so nothing runs into the frame. Dust the frame with a soft dry brush, working around the cherubs and into the scrolls. The moulded detail can chip if knocked, so take care when hanging. Hang from a fixing rated for the weight, and keep it out of a steamy bathroom without ventilation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How big is the mirror itself?
The whole piece is 39 cm tall and 27 cm wide, and the oval glass sits inside that, with the frame and the cherubs taking up the rest. It is a decorative mirror rather than one to get ready in front of.
How do I hang it?
From a single wall fixing rated for the weight. At 1.5 kg it does not need a stud in most walls, but use a proper hook or anchor rather than a nail.
Can I put it in a bathroom?
In a powder room or a well ventilated bathroom, yes. Repeated steam is hard on a painted composite frame, so avoid a small room with a hot shower and no extraction.
Is the worn finish a fault?
No. The white is laid on thin over the raised scrolls and rubbed back on purpose, with gold showing through, so the moulding stays legible instead of being buried in paint.
What is the frame made of?
Moulded magnesia over an MDF backing, with a glass mirror. The magnesia is what holds the fine detail in the cherubs and the scrollwork.
Because Albertine is finished by hand, the distressing and the gold vary a little from piece to piece, so no two are exactly alike. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.
