On The Water
Lit from within, the fine gold mesh throws candlelight into soft points across the wall.
Arielle is a tall table lantern built from aged metal in an antique gold finish, with a fine diamond mesh wrapped around a removable glass sleeve. The domed cap, ring handle and braided bands at the top and base carry the old railway-lamp shape that French country rooms keep returning to. Set a pillar candle inside and the mesh does the rest.
At 40 cm it stands a clear head above its shorter companion Melissa, so the two read as a graduated pair down the centre of a long table or along a mantel. On its own it holds a corner of a console or a hearth through the cooler months. The glass sleeve keeps the flame steady, which makes it at home on a covered verandah on a still evening.

How to style it
It earns its keep wherever a room needs a warm, low light.
- Run it down a dining table with the rest of our candle holders for a layered tablescape.
- Group it with the shorter Melissa and other lanterns in graduated heights along a mantel.
- Sit it on a hall console beside a mirror so the candlelight doubles.
- Carry it out to a covered patio for still evenings, alongside our garden and outdoor pieces.
Stylist's Tip Skip the tall taper and use a fat pillar candle instead. The flame sits low behind the glass, so the light glows up through the mesh rather than escaping out the open top.
Care & Keeping
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth, and lift out the glass sleeve to wipe it clear of soot now and then. Keep the metal dry; indoors or under cover outdoors is best, since steady damp will mark the antique gold over time. Trim candle wicks short to keep the glass clean and the flame even.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Arielle outside?
Indoors is its natural home, but it is fine on a covered verandah or patio out of direct rain and wind. Bring it in over wet spells so the antique gold finish stays clean.
What style of room does it suit?
French Provincial, French country and cottage interiors first. The aged gold and lantern shape also settle into Hamptons, coastal and warm modern rooms.
How big is Arielle?
It stands 40 cm tall on an 18 cm round base, a little taller than a standard wine bottle and a clear step up from the shorter Melissa lantern at the same width.
Will mine look exactly like the photos?
Close, not identical. Each lantern is hand-finished, so the depth of the antique gold and the small marks in the patina differ a little piece to piece. That is part of the look, not a fault.
Does it come with the matching lantern?
No. Arielle and the shorter Melissa are sold separately, so you can buy one or build the pair. Both work as a warm gift on their own.
Because Arielle is hand-finished, slight variations in the antique gold patina and finish are natural and part of the character of each lantern. Colour may also vary slightly between screens; all photography is taken in natural light.
