A wide mantel shelf with a pierced openwork apron, the carving cut through itself to let the wall breathe through the scrolls.
Natalie is a wall-mounted mantel shelf with a carved MDF apron and a solid fir wood top. The apron is the focal point, with a central heart-shaped cartouche flanked by curling C-scrolls and stylised leaves, all cut through with pierced openwork so the wall colour shows through the carving. The whole piece is finished in a soft distressed whitewash that wears back to a sandy undertone along the high points, with the timber top left in a warm natural finish for contrast.
At 54 cm wide and 22 cm tall, Natalie has the same width as her companion Virginie but a shorter, slimmer profile. The openwork carving gives her a lighter visual weight, suiting walls where Virginie's solid scrollwork would feel heavy. She works as a single architectural feature, or as a staggered-height pair with Virginie for a layered mantel-style wall.

How to style it
Natalie's pierced openwork is a styling cue in itself. A few ideas:
- Mount her above a console, sideboard, or hall table with a small grouping of objects across the top, candles, a cherub sculpture, and dried stems
- Pair her with the larger Virginie at staggered heights on the same wall for a layered mantel-style display with contrasting visual weight
- Use her above a bedroom dresser or vanity as a softer architectural accent, suiting a quieter colour palette than Virginie's heavier carving
- Place her over a low bench in a hallway or entryway with a single tall vase of stems for a styled welcome moment
Stylist's Tip Natalie's pierced carving relies on the wall behind her to give the openwork contrast. Mount her on a darker wall (charcoal, deep green, navy) for the carving to read clearly, or on a pale wall for a softer, more dissolved effect.
Care & Keeping
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a soft-bristle brush, paying attention to the pierced sections where dust collects in the cut-throughs. The carved apron and timber top can both be wiped with a barely damp cloth and dried immediately. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, and prolonged damp. Indoor use only.

Does it come with wall fixings?
No, wall fixings are not supplied. Natalie has mounting points along the back of the shelf and needs appropriate wall fixings for your wall type. Given her width, we recommend at least two fixings spread across the back, mounted into studs where possible, or using hollow wall anchors rated for at least 3 kg per fixing point.
How much weight can the top hold?
The top shelf comfortably holds a styled display of objects up to around 3 kg in total spread across the length, smaller sculptures, candles, framed photos, vases, dried floral arrangements. Avoid loading concentrated weight at one end, balance the styling across the full width for best stability.
How does Natalie compare to Virginie?
Both are wide mantel shelves at 54 cm, but the carving and proportions differ. Natalie is shorter (22 cm) and slimmer (10 cm deep), with a pierced openwork apron that lets the wall show through. Virginie is taller (30 cm) and deeper (15 cm), with a solid scrolled apron that has more visual weight. Natalie reads lighter, Virginie reads more substantial. The two work beautifully together as a staggered pair, mounted at different heights on the same wall.
Is the carving real wood or a composite?
The decorative carved apron is MDF (medium-density fibreboard), which is hand-finished with a distressed whitewash. The top shelf is solid fir wood with a natural timber finish. MDF takes pierced carving beautifully and holds the painted finish well, which is why it's used for ornamental architectural reproductions.
Will it work as a fireplace mantel?
Natalie suits a decorative mantel role above a fireplace, but is not rated as a functional structural mantel. Mount her well above the heat source on a non-combustible wall, and avoid placing her where she'd be exposed to direct flame, smoke residue, or sustained high heat. For working fireplaces, a minimum clearance of 30 cm above the firebox opening is sensible.
Will every piece look exactly like the photos?
Natalie is hand-finished, so the chip pattern, paint distribution, and timber grain vary slightly from piece to piece. That's part of the appeal and the reason she reads as aged architectural salvage rather than mass-produced.
Because Natalie is hand-finished, slight variations in patina, texture, and timber grain are natural and add to the unique character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.
