A grand Baroque mantel mirror in hand-finished antique white with worn gold accents, framed top and bottom by matching sculpted cartouches and scrolling acanthus detail.

Chambord takes his name from the Loire Valley royal château, and carries that pedigree through every detail. The mirror is framed top and bottom by matching sculpted cartouches, the crown rising to a pierced trefoil and the base mirroring it with a central rosette and acanthus scrolls. Slim side rails connect the two, keeping the eye moving between the matched ornaments. The finish is layered, antique white worn back at the corners and the high points of the sculpted relief to reveal the warm gold-toned base underneath.

At 54 cm wide and 84 cm tall, Chambord is a true statement mirror, larger than a standard wall mirror and proportioned to anchor a dressing table, mantel or entryway console with real presence. The double-cartouche design is the defining feature, most ornate mirrors stop at the crown, Chambord finishes the silhouette top and bottom.

Why we love him

  • Matched cartouche top and base, where most ornate mirrors stop at the crown, Chambord carries the sculpted detail through both ends, finishing the silhouette properly.
  • Two finishes in one frame, hand-finished antique white over warm gold accents gives a layered, slightly aged look rather than flat white or all-gold.
  • True statement scale, 54 cm wide and 84 cm tall has the presence to anchor a dressing table, mantel or entryway console without disappearing into the wall.
  • Pairs with our Baroque mirror family, sits comfortably alongside Versailles, Camille and Adeline for a layered ornate-mirror room scheme.

How to style him

Chambord is built to be a focal point, so place him where the full silhouette can be appreciated and the matched cartouches read top to bottom.

  • Hang above a French Provincial dressing table with a small lamp, a vase of lavender or peonies and a vintage hand mirror beside.
  • Use as a mantel mirror in a formal living room, with a pair of brass candle holders on the mantel below.
  • Hang above an entryway console with a low arrangement of garden roses, a porcelain bowl for keys and a single sculptural cherub or angel figure.
  • Place in a powder room or guest bathroom above a stone or marble vanity for a hotel-suite feel.
  • Pair with deep velvet drapery in burgundy, emerald or charcoal for a proper château feel against the pale frame.

Stylist's Tip Chambord wants a quiet wall colour to do his job, mushroom, soft grey, pale taupe or warm white all let the sculpted relief and gold accents read clearly. Hang him slightly above eye level so the crown cartouche reads against the wall rather than against your reflection.

Care & Keeping

Dust the sculpted frame with a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth, working gently into the cartouche detail, acanthus scrolls and trefoil cut-out at the crown. For deeper cleaning, use a barely damp cloth followed by an immediate dry. Clean the mirror surface with glass cleaner sprayed onto a microfibre cloth, not directly onto the mirror, so liquid does not seep behind the frame. Do not immerse in water. Indoor use only. Hang from a secure wall fixing rated for at least 10 kg to allow a safety margin.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the gold finish?

The gold is a hand-applied accent finish over the moulded fir wood and MDF frame. The warmth of the colour reads as gilt and the worn treatment at the high points gives the piece its hand-finished character, the same treatment used across French Provincial reproduction antiques.

How does Chambord compare to Versailles?

Both are part of the same Baroque mirror family. Chambord is taller and wider at 54 x 84 cm, with matched sculpted cartouches at both the top AND bottom of the frame. Versailles is 49 x 70 cm with a single cartouche crown. Chambord is the bigger statement piece, Versailles is the mid-size option, both share the same antique white finish with gold accents.

How do I hang him?

Chambord is 3 kg, so a single wall fixing rated for 10 kg or two fixings into plasterboard anchors is sufficient. The back has a hanging point ready for hook or D-ring fixings, which are not supplied. We recommend hanging slightly above eye level so the crown cartouche reads above your reflection.

Will he work in a powder room or guest bathroom?

Yes, the 54 cm width suits most vanities. Avoid hanging directly above a shower or splash zone, the mirror is rated for indoor use and the sculpted detail should be kept out of constant steam and water spray.

Can I use him outdoors?

Chambord is designed for indoor use only. The fir wood frame will warp and the antique white finish will lift with dew, rain or direct sun.

Does each piece look the same?

Chambord is hand-finished, so subtle variations in the antique white patina, the depth of the worn gold accents at the corners and the catch of light on the sculpted detail are part of the character. No two pieces are identical.

Because Chambord is hand-finished, slight variations in patina, gold accents, and sculpted detail are natural and add to the unique character of each piece. Colour may also vary slightly between screens, all photography is taken in natural light.
