A statement wall shelf with a carved draped curtain apron, swag valance across the top and tasseled panels falling down each side, the kind of theatrical piece that becomes the focal point of a wall on its own.
Annie is a wall-mounted statement shelf with a deeply carved magnesium oxide composite apron and a solid fir wood top. The apron mimics theatrical drapery, with a scalloped swag valance running along the top edge, central draped folds gathering at the middle, and twin curtain panels falling down each side, each finished with a tied tassel terminal. The whole piece is finished in a soft distressed whitewash that wears back to a sandy undertone along the high points, with the timber top left in a warm natural finish for contrast.
At 54 cm wide, 35 cm tall, and 17 cm deep, Annie is the largest and most sculptural piece in our wall shelf collection. The three-dimensional drapery carving casts deep shadows in side-light, giving her a presence that reads more as architectural sculpture than as a utility shelf. She suits a wall where you want a single dramatic moment rather than a layered grouping.

How to style it
Annie is a statement piece, so the styling cue is restraint:
- Mount her solo on a feature wall, in an entry, above a console, or as the focal point of a fireplace surround, with just one or two objects on top
- Style the top simply, a single candle holder and a small bird sculpture, or a single tall vase of dried stems
- Pair her with a large mirror or piece of carved wall art for a layered French Provincial wall composition
- Avoid grouping her with other smaller shelves or corbels in the same eyeline, her scale and detail compete rather than layer with quieter pieces
Stylist's Tip Annie's drapery carving reads best on a deeper wall colour, charcoal, deep green, navy, dark plaster, where the shadows in the swag and folds register clearly. On a pale wall the carving will still read, but the dramatic three-dimensional effect softens. She also benefits from raking side-light rather than head-on lighting.
Care & Keeping
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a soft-bristle brush, paying attention to the deep folds and tassel detail where dust collects. The magnesium oxide apron is porous, so avoid wet cleaning, harsh chemicals, and prolonged damp. The fir wood top can be wiped with a barely damp cloth and dried immediately. Indoor use only.

Does it come with wall fixings?
No, wall fixings are not supplied. Annie has mounting points along the back and weighs 4 kg net, so we strongly recommend mounting into a stud where possible. For plasterboard without a stud behind it, use multiple heavy-duty hollow wall anchors rated for at least 10 kg combined, spread across the back. Given her weight and the carved overhang, professional installation is sensible for a piece at this price point.
How much weight can the top hold?
The top shelf comfortably holds a styled display up to around 3 kg in total spread across the length, smaller sculptures, candles, framed photos, vases, dried floral arrangements. Avoid loading concentrated weight at one end, balance the styling across the full width for best stability.
Is the drapery carving real wood or a composite?
The carved curtain swag apron is magnesium oxide composite (MGO), which is hand-finished with a distressed whitewash. The top shelf is solid fir wood with a natural timber finish. MGO is used for the apron because it holds deep three-dimensional carved detail beautifully without warping or splitting, and chip-backs to a sandy undertone that gives the aged-plaster effect.
